Talks

Below are selections from recent talks I've given. Feel free to use the content, remix it, tweak it, and build upon the work. I would appreciate credit for the original creation.

Psychological Effects of Immersive Environments

I tried to approach this concept from both a theoretical and a practical standpoint. I presented a holistic view of the topic with an overview of the history of XR before diving into XR applications. The goal was to help the audience see how the applications of the tech were grounded in the underlying research and development. Once that was laid down, I encouraged everyone to think about the tech through the lens of ethics and what it means for humanity. There's great potential, but also great danger.

Nudges: Subtlety & Distortion

This session was broken out into 3 parts: presentation, activity, and presentation. The talk covered features in environments and UIs that attract a user's attention and influences his or her behavior. I tried to expand on the traditional UX topic by examining fundamental cognitive features that make people susceptible to persuasive patterns.

Designing for Accessibility

As designers, we have the power and responsibility to make sure that everyone has access to what we create regardless of ability, context, or situation. The great thing about making our work accessible is that it brings a better experience to everyone.
