Papercraft VR

One of the most valuable weapons in a designer's arsenal is the hand drawn prototype. With a prototype, ideas can be analyzed and tested with potential users. Prototyping for VR can be especially useful, but it requires significant technical know-how.

Working with the incomparable Russell Parrish and Shixie Trofimov, we came up with a way for designers to sketch VR prototypes on paper. I designed a simple cylindrical rig that could accommodate a 360° camera and hold sketches at the minimum focal distance. The cylinder also accommodated dry-erase transparencies which could be used repeatedly or combined with other underlies like traditional cell animation.
